Personally I wished @frameworkcomputer would offer a #transparent #case for their #Framework #Laptops!
Much work has gone into transitioning #linuxdesktop to #pipewire and #wayland.
While the former is mostly completed, the same cannot be said for Wayland, at least not from the perspective of #linuxaudio.
Fortunately, thanks to Xwayland, users (and developers) hardly notice this in their everyday lives.
However, most of the #daw (s), #framework (s) and #plugin (s) have yet to introduce Wayland support, so, there is still a lot of work ahead.

Ich hab seit.. Jahren einen #framework 13, 11. Generation Intel und mag es total.
Es ist wirklich super immer Dongles für jeden dabei zu haben, selbst deine Porten aus zu wählen und zu wechseln und einen Upgradepath zu haben.
Allerdings, sie sind typischerweise teurer als Rechner mit ähnliche Leistung. Das gilt noch mehr für den 16 Zoll (einzigen mit optionalem, dedicated GPU). Sie haben halt viel Modularität rein gebaut, macht es aber auch teurer.
Linux Support is gut. Einige Distros sind offiziell unterstützt, für anderen gibts den Community.
Letztens kann ich empfehlen selbst SSD und Arbeitsspecher zu kaufen. Billiger als bei FW selbst, und für Linux macht es schon Sinn den DIY zu nehmen.

Frage an die geschätzte #Nerd Bubble: Wie ist so Eure Meinung zu den #Framework Notebooks? Ich weiss, die sind preislich schon ziemlich hui, aber ich möchte mir halt mal wieder was gönnen. Zum Vergleich: Ich hab aktuell ein Dell Inspiron 7570 (letztes BIOS ist von 2022? yay?). Das tut zwar noch, aber man kann ja mal schauen, ne? :)
Was mach ich so? The usual nerd-shit: (schlecht) Coden, Browsen, mit VMs herumspielen, Linux Krempel und das ein oder andere Game zwischendurch. Jetzt weniger Call-of-Duty und mehr so Sachen wie Factorio (ich kann JEDERZEIT damit aufhören!), Rimworld, Minecraft usw. Sprich: Darf schon gern ne GPU mit drin haben.
Ich bin durchaus in der Lage, mir mein Zeug selbst zusammenzubasteln und nutze ausschliesslich Linux als OS. Wahlweise Mint oder CachyOS, jenachdem, welches besser mit dem Eimer harmoniert.

ich habe ein kurioses Problem mit meinem #FrameWork Laptop und Linux #Mint (#LMDE).
Das Gerät bootet aus mir bisher unbekannten Gründen gerne mal neu. Bisher war ich noch nicht in der Lage, die Ursache über die Logs zu ermitteln.
Habt ihr eine Idee oder einen Tipp, wo ich schauen muss?
Ich bin an einem Punkt, wo ich ernsthaft überlege, die LMDE Installation gegen ein #Fedora zu erstzen.

TIL that Microsoft Copilot is now trying to show a "face" with different "emotions". That it's not working right now is not my issue. That MS are even more explicitly trying to trick people into thinking they are having a conversation with an actual person, however, most definitely *is*.
Did this "feature" run through an ethics board review? Is the additional emotional deception of users intentional? Who actually wants that sh..?
I am getting happier by the day that my current daily driver (#Framework) laptop didn't come with a Windows license and I'm certainly not going to spend any public university funds on buying this manipulatory adware... Whoever sends me documents to edit in the future: if they don't open correctly in #Libreoffice (without the "help" of Copilot), I won't be able to work on them.

Tonight's fun project: research how to rip #vinyl records. Pretty fun and rewarding to be combining some old audio hardware I had, yard-sale-acquired records, and my penchant for #opensource via my repairable #framework laptop running #fedora and #audacity . I think I'm almost all configured for a fun weekend of ripping!
