Open Source im Süden und Norden

Das Heer in Österreich meldet den Komplettumzug von Microsoft Office zu LibreOffice. Schleswig-Holstein ist dabei, Microsoft komplett von allen Rechnern zu verbannen. Letzteres scheint ein bisschen zu ruckeln und manche kriegen offensichtlich schon kalte Füße. Wir werden sehen und ich kann und will das hier auch gar nicht bewerten.

Ich will auf zwei andere Punkte eingehen, die mir bei diesen Migrationen gut gefallen.

Zum einen wird von beiden Seiten gar nicht groß das Kostenargument nach vorne gekehrt. Zumindest in der Zeit der Umstellung zieht das auch gar nicht. Beiden geht es um Unabhängigkeit und das ist genau das, was wir alle aktuell anstreben müssen (nicht sollten oder so).

Zum zweiten fahren beide auch eine „Upstream-only-Strategie“. Das heißt, was immer sie so zusätzlich entwickeln fließt direkt in die Open-Source-Projekte zurück. Keine Forks oder Kram.

Ich nenne das mal Win-Win-Situation. Die neuen Nutzer werden digital unabhängig und die OpenSource-Projekte werden gestärkt. Das ist das, was ich Open-Source-Mindset nenne. Community.

Und falls sich hier Leser fragen, was dieses LibreOffice wohl ist. Es ist ein vollwertiger Ersatz für MS nur ohne die Schnüffelei und Bevormundung der aktuellen Online-Variante aus den USA. Einfach hier runterladen und loslegen.

In Schleswig-Holstein läuft gerade eine (von wem finanzierte?) Medienkampagne gegen die Umstellung der Landesbehörden auf OpenSource - groß auf der Titelseite, die Leser werden aufgefordert abzustimmen, ob die Migration rückgängig gemacht werden soll 🤦🏻‍♂️.

Gleichzeitig:
Österreichs Bundesheer lamentiert nicht, sondern hat die Umstellung erfolgreich ABGESCHLOSSEN - und gibt der Community die vorgenommenen Ergänzungen zurück.
