KaroliinaTänään on Día del Galgo eli galgon päivä. Galgo español eli espanjanvinttikoira on yksi maailman kaltoinkohdelluimpia koirarotuja. Galgoja käytetään Espanjassa pääasiassa jäniksen metsästyksessä. Tähän tarkoitukseen galguerot eli galgoja käyttävät metsästäjät pennuttavat joka vuosi tuhansia koiria, joista suurin osa hylätään tai tapetaan metsästyskauden päätyttyä tammikuun lopussa. Arvioidaan, että joka vuosi tapetaan jopa 50 000 galgoa. Mä olen nuoresta saakka haaveillut vinttikoirasta, ja vihdoin 2023 kesällä haettiin Roma ja Galia Hki-Vantaan lentokentältä. En sano että oli rakkautta ensi silmäyksellä, molemmat koirat oli tarhaelämän ja lennon jäljiltä aivan rättiväsyneitä, stressaantuneita ja karva oli kiilloton ja likainen. Mutta aika nopeasti se todellinen luonne sieltä alkoi tulla esiin, ja sehän on mitä lempein ja rakastavin.
