MC Lyte - “Cappuccino” (1989)
“Eyes On This” was my intro to MC Lyte. First solo female rapper!
I’ve always loved her voice and how she intentionally wore baggy clothes so people would focus on the lyrics and music instead of making this female MC into just another sex symbol.
My kids know her from their childhood days watching Sesame Street videos. She did a video called “The Body Dance”. When we saw it for the first time together, I had to yell out “MC Lyte's on the microphone!”
