A cat stands very still, slyly glancing at the tip of its tail, where a hopeful fish has come for a nibble. On the tip of its tail grows a bit of tasty-looking vegetation. Its orange body has seaweed shaped patterns. From the top of the kitties head, branching flowers of green and orange blossom and sway, enticing the unwary to come closer. This prideful Guardian Monster is Kaniver Confundicutt.
Personality: Sneaky and calculating sum up the “charms” of this monster. She is a trickster at heart and enjoys nothing more than leaving her victims in a huddled, befuddled state of confusion. (She finds this most amusing.)

Potential Issues: This should be obvious, but just in case more explanation is required, here is a list of just some of her personality quirks: 1.) She has no mercy; 2.) She laughs at crying babies; 3.) She thrills for the chase; 4.) She has no fear; 5.) Nervous pleading makes her giggle. Need I say more?

Rules of Etiquette: Don’t become her “victim.” Immediately upon acquaintance, make sure she knows that you know how amazing she is. She has quite an ego, which needs regular stroking with compliments. No surprise, she never tires of an appreciative audience and will happily return the favor by fending off bothersome troublemakers or persuading you to keep promises you’ve made. I urge caution however before seeking her assistance or you may regret it later.

Monsters have babies too.
Baby monsters are even harder to find than the elusive "baby" pigeon. Very few folks can say that they've seen them, let alone created their portraits. I have been lucky. As you might imagine, monster parents can be a bit protective. Mothers in particular. They consider us (humans) more than a bit strange and potentially dangerous. It took most of my free time, lots of monster "treats" and carefully followed Monster Etiquette to befriend just a few of them. Even then, I felt a bit nervous and on edge as I made sketches of their most beloved offspring. It is always a good idea to remind oneself that monsters are ultimately unpredictable creatures, and should be given proper respect at all times.

Against a brilliant blue sky, with just a hint of mountains in the distance, a teeny baby monster trembles with uncertainty on its mothers scaly leg, grasping her long sharp claw for balance. It nervously stares (at me) with large bulging eyes, while the other hand is clamped firmly in its mouth. Blind Willie McTell is one of those musical prodigies of music history. I had the record from back when Suzy Q Records was still a record store, and I never listened to it. The recordings are eerily bad; you can even hear traffic in the background at times. But one day I finally listened to it properly, worked my way through the interference, and then I couldn't stop listening to it. What magical songs, what complex songwriting... and even if it's overused, what punk lyrics. I covered “Dying Crapshooters Blues” on the “Desperation” LP. A tribute to a magician.

Blind Willie McTell ist einer dieser Wundermusiker der Musikgeschichte. Ich hatte die Schallplatte aus den Zeiten als Suzy Q Records noch ein Plattenladen war, und hab sie nie angehört. Die Aufnahmen sind gruslig schlecht, man hört gelegentlich sogar den Straßenverkehr im Hintergrund. Aber eines Tages habe ich es mir dann doch mal genau angehört und mich durch die Störsignale durchgearbeitet und dann konnte ich nicht mehr aufhören es anzuhören. Was für magische Lieder, was für ein komplexes Songwriting .. und auch wenn es überstrapaziert ist, was für Punk Texte. "Dying Crapshooters Blues" hab ich auf der "Desperation" LP gecovert. Ein Hommage an einen Zauberer.

One of my favorite modifications to #TTRPGs is the concept of "exceptional" items; that is, items which are so well-crafted that they provide inherent, yet #nonmagical minor bonuses.

And as I've always said, the reality of #magic is that, unless you are going to make magical items and spellcasting ubiquitous and weak, they would be extremely valuable and desirable, and coveted by those without.

People will literally kill for that which they cannot possess by other means. Wealth is visible.

I personally think the biggest reason why so many #TTRPG campaigns become unmanageable very quickly as the PCs level up is because games writers and GMs are too free with #magic spells, weapons, and items. So much time ends up being spent on the arms race that not enough room is left for story development. I don't want to play games to "win", I want to play because I want to inhabit a secondary creation, as Tolkien would say, a "fairy-story". RPGs are my #escapism, not my power #fantasy.
