AGRO TURBO SATAN 🇺🇦🇨🇿👃💨
The heroes of our story dealt with it admirably: the #UNIX port uses logical blocks of 512 words mapped to five physical blocks. This results in 1680 bytes of physical storage providing 1536 useful bytes and 144 bytes of waste. *NAND flash aficionados cheer wildly.* That is the cost of keeping the UNIX filesystem structures nicely aligned. We now also know the sanity tax on operators' brain is 8%.

That is actually all I got. Take good care of yourselves, and read the papers: https://www.tuhs.org/Archive/Documentation/Theses/

*praises satan*
*brachiates into the woods*

(6/6/6)

Bonus: pretty printed paper on C port: https://archive.org/details/leffler81

AGRO TURBO SATAN 🇺🇦🇨🇿👃💨
The port was done by Bill Shannon, the C compiler was ported by Sam Leffler. Both absolute legends in #UNIX and #BSD world. Hail them!

And off to a good start we are: /6 is a 24-bit machine. 24-bit, as in: Most registers are 24-bit and most instructions address memory in 24-bit chunks. The program counter is 15-bit, and two general purpose registers can be glued together to into a 47-bit register. One bit falls off, do not ask me. Small program counter means the programs are limited to 32K words. Jump instructions use 16-bit addresses, with the extra bit biasing code and data accesses alike. It's like two computers in one! AGRO TURBO SATAN 🇺🇦🇨🇿👃💨
Actually... let's get started. Please welcome:

#Harris SLASH 6. A wonderful mix of archaic and modern features. Here are my observations, you sickos:

The earliest port of #UNIX is probably that of Sixth Edition to Interdata/7, which involved port of the Ritchie compiler -- on paper. Mind you, this predates the Portable C Compiler which debuted in Seventh Edition. Seventh Edition subsequently made its way to Interdata/8 and VAX-11. With the VAX port, UNIX and C compiler were extended for a 32-bit machine in a mostly straightforward way. What followed was a port to SLASH 6 (/6), which looks like an absolute opposite of a straightforward port. (1/6)
