The Vinyl Ape 🦧<p>NEIL YOUNG<br>Mirrorball<br>2025 U.S. 2xLP reissue<br>[from the Official Release Series Discs 26, 27, 28 &amp; 29 4xLP Box Set]</p><p>Where being a loyal, regular (almost everyday) customer of your local shop pays off big. </p><p>The owner of my local shop knows that Mirror Ball has been one of my holy grails forever.<br>OGs are hard to find &amp; super-expensive, &amp; previous bootlegs have sounded like shit. </p><p>So, he ordered the new 4xLP box set of Neil Young <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/90s" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>90s</span></a> records for the shop, &amp; kindly offered to open one &amp; sell me Mirror Ball separately.<br>An incredibly kind gesture.</p><p>These new versions are remastered by Bernie Grundman from the original analog tapes &amp; they sound INCREDIBLE. I am beyond ecstatic to finally own it on vinyl, never mind such a high end sounding pressing. </p><p>The version of “Peace And Love” here is extended by about a minute, &amp; it sounds like Neil and Pearl Jam are bashing away in my study.</p><p><a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinyl" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinyl</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylrecords" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylrecords</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylcommunity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylcommunity</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylcollection" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylcollection</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/retro" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retro</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vintage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vintage</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/art" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>art</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/music" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>music</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/1990s" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>1990s</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/90smusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>90smusic</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/grunge" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>grunge</span></a></p>
The Vinyl Ape 🦧<p>DEFTONES<br>Saturday Night Wrist<br>2012 U.S. reissue</p><p>I know everybody loves White Pony (rightfully so), but this is MY Deftones record.</p><p>Saturday Night Wrist was an absolute nightmare for <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/Deftones" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Deftones</span></a> to make. Chino was on drugs and his marriage was falling apart, everyone was fighting with one another, and the record had many starts and stops, both in songwriting and production approach. </p><p>For me, it’s by far the darkest they’ve ever gone, and I love the left turn it takes. <br>It’s also the last record that Chi was on before the awful accident that would eventually kill him. One of the many reasons why Moreno says he still can’t listen to it. <br>Which, taking into consideration EVERYTHING from which it was born from, is completely understandable.</p><p>“Cherry Waves” is incredible, “Hole In The Earth” is one of their best singles, and “Pink Cellphone” has great additional vocals by Annie Hardy.</p><p>An astonishing album.</p><p><a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinyl" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinyl</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylrecords" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylrecords</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylcommunity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylcommunity</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylcollection" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylcollection</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/retro" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retro</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vintage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vintage</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/art" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>art</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/music" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>music</span></a></p>
The Vinyl Ape 🦧<p>SURF CURSE<br>Buds<br>2023 U.S. reissue</p><p>Oh man, I forgot how much I love this record. </p><p>This was Surf Curse’s first album, which was originally released in cassette only in 2013.</p><p>They were only teenagers, and SEVEN YEARS LATER, received attention via Tik Tok (gross) for the song “Freaks”, which appears here.</p><p>Since I’ve never been on Tik Tok in my life (because I’m not an asshole), I discovered this awesome record from an indie clearance bin for $10.</p><p>Awesome, scruffy <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/surf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>surf</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/punk" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>punk</span></a> tunes that are super catchy. And I guess I have another kind of affection for this record too, as it was recorded at The Smell in Los Angeles, a place where I have performed in the past a few times myself.</p><p>Since this first album, they’ve made three more fantastic records that are also worth checking out.</p><p><a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinyl" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinyl</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylrecords" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylrecords</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylcommunity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylcommunity</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylcollection" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylcollection</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/retro" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retro</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vintage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vintage</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/art" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>art</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/music" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>music</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/SurfCurse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SurfCurse</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/indie" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>indie</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/alternative" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>alternative</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/losangeles" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>losangeles</span></a></p>
Cynni PixySide view of my little vinyl collection. Not all titles are clearly visible due to the plastic protection sleeves.<br> It's not a big collection, but I have some special "colored" vinyls, and some good albums... 😊 I always hope to add more to the collection as time passes by, but unfortunately vinyls can be rather expensive, so it's not always possible to get them...<br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/Vinyl?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Vinyl</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/Record?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Record</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/VinylCollection?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#VinylCollection</a>
The Vinyl Ape 🦧<p>MOTHER LOVE BONE<br>Apple<br>2025 Europe Remastered Reissue</p><p>Knocking out those shelves was a bunch of work, and now, a little reward.</p><p>This is a PHENOMENAL sounding pressing of this, but unfortunately, there’s a few tracks that have been omitted for time. The only one I care about that’s not here is “Gentle Groove”. <br>Other than that minor bummer, this sounds like a borderline audiophile pressing. </p><p>This’ll tide me over just fine until I can find either an OG press, or the 2xLP version that MOV put out.</p><p><a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinyl" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinyl</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylrecords" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylrecords</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylcommunity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylcommunity</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylcollection" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylcollection</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/retro" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retro</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vintage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vintage</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/art" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>art</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/music" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>music</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/grunge" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>grunge</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/seattle" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>seattle</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/1990s" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>1990s</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/90s" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>90s</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/90smusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>90smusic</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/motherlovebone" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>motherlovebone</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/alternative" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>alternative</span></a></p>
The Vinyl Ape 🦧<p>My wife requested that I move a bunch of records out of the living room and upstairs spare room, so I had to knock out a few extra shelves on the big bookcase to fit them.</p><p>My wife is very tolerant of the crazy space-consuming things that make me happy, so I’m happy to oblige.</p><p>This is just a temporary fix. </p><p>You can only see about half the shelf in this picture. <br>It’s only a matter of time before ALL of it is just records.</p><p>Good enough for now, though. </p><p><a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinyl" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinyl</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylrecords" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylrecords</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylcommunity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylcommunity</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylcollection" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylcollection</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/retro" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retro</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vintage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vintage</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/art" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>art</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/music" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>music</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/homedecor" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>homedecor</span></a></p>

All I had to go on was the back. <br>So here we go:</p><p>Ron Bencher was a PLUMBER (!) in his native home of Prince George.</p><p>The A-side here, a twangy <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/country" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>country</span></a> number about 1920s actor and lothario Rudolph Valentino, was written while Bencher was on the U.S. Rodeo circuit in 1964 (Ummm… what?!?!)</p><p>Despite family and friends urging him to record it, it sat dormant for 14 years, before Bencher decided to finally give it a go as a 40th birthday present to himself.<br>AND ITS REALLY GOOD!<br>Cool Bobby Darin cover on side B, too!</p><p>1978 or 1979, doing the math of when he wrote it, plus the 14?</p><p>It certainly SOUNDS like late <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/70s" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>70s</span></a> country. </p><p><a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinyl" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinyl</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylrecords" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylrecords</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylcommunity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylcommunity</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylcollection" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylcollection</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/retro" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retro</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vintage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vintage</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/art" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>art</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/music" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>music</span></a></p>

John Eckman<p><strong>Modern English, Mesh &amp; Lace, 1981 on 4AD</strong></p><p>Debut album from Modern English on the 4AD label. This wasn’t released in the US formally until the 2012 CD reissue and then 2016 on vinyl. </p><p>The debut is a bit darker and more derivative of Joy Division than some of the later work but still a really strong collection of songs. </p><p>I always loved the lyric from “I Melt With You”: “never realizing it was always mesh &amp; lace” but didn’t recognize at the time it was something of a reference to their debut. </p><p>My copy—via a record fair at Mill No. 5—is a UK pressing by WEA in West Drayton, with the original inner sleeve. </p><p><a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://goatless.org/tag/1980s" target="_blank">#1980s</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://goatless.org/tag/1981" target="_blank">#1981</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://goatless.org/tag/4ad" target="_blank">#4AD</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://goatless.org/tag/lowell-ma" target="_blank">#LowellMA</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://goatless.org/tag/mill-no-5" target="_blank">#MillNo5</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://goatless.org/tag/modern-english" target="_blank">#ModernEnglish</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://goatless.org/tag/uk" target="_blank">#UK</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://goatless.org/tag/vinyl" target="_blank">#vinyl</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://goatless.org/tag/vinylcollection" target="_blank">#vinylcollection</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://goatless.org/tag/vinylfinds" target="_blank">#vinylfinds</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://goatless.org/tag/wea-west-drayton" target="_blank">#WEAWestDrayton</a></p>
