otter_linnus<p>The <a href="https://det.social/tags/framework12" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>framework12</span></a> fills me with joy. Installing <a href="https://det.social/tags/windows11" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>windows11</span></a> on it is a real bummer though... (the prospective owner could not be swayed to use linux). Totally forgot how captive the installation process has become :thisisfine:</p>
in ♥️ with PDA (and 🐧)<p>Another killer feature of the <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/framework12" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>framework12</span></a>. Switches for camera and mic</p>
in ♥️ with PDA (and 🐧)<p>Short review of the <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/framework12" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>framework12</span></a>: neat and great little device. <br>Reminds me a bit of my first ibook12. Love the form factor. The plastic case feels nice. <br>The screen is decent.<br>I love the extensions port to setup a personal preference: USB-C, SD, USB-A, HDMI ... ethernet in the bag to swap :)<br>The keyboard types nice, but I miss the backlight.</p>
in ♥️ with PDA (and 🐧)<p>Ok. <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/opensuse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>opensuse</span></a> and <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/niri" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>niri</span></a> stays on my desktop. My <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/framework12" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>framework12</span></a> will get <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/debian13" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>debian13</span></a> and <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/swaywm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>swaywm</span></a>.<br>I am actually quite found a <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/swaywm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>swaywm</span></a> recently again.<br>Surely will miss <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/niri" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>niri</span></a></p>
Kunstbanause<p>How priorities change:<br>My <a href="https://nrw.social/tags/framework12" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>framework12</span></a> arrived on Monday. I have hardly opened the package, not even properly inspected the device. Why? Because the children want to help me build a laptop, and we did not find the time yet to do it together. 😅<br>A few years ago, the package would have been open before the door from the delivery was closed. 🤷‍♂️</p><p><a href="https://nrw.social/tags/framework" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>framework</span></a> <a href="https://nrw.social/tags/frameworklaptop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>frameworklaptop</span></a></p>

Riko :veripawed3:<p>I was really impressed by how many things »just worked«. Some things I needed to tweak with GNOME extensions.</p><p>Display: you notice the reds being orange with the naked eye. But I like the display otherwise. Touchscreen works just fine, still waiting to order the colour-matched stylus.</p><p>Keyboard: I like how the key caps feel, travel is fine. You can swap Fn and left-ctrl in BIOS, but I'm trying to just get used to how it is, so it doesn't confuse other people using my laptop.</p><p>Trackpad: after realignment, I'm really impressed. I haven't used many modern non-apple trackpads, but this one gets really close to the diveboard-style trackpads found in older Macbooks, while not being made out of glass (from what I've heard).</p><p><a href="https://meow.social/tags/framework12" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>framework12</span></a></p>
Riko :veripawed3:<p>First, some issues to tackle: My trackpad was misaligned, I thought I did something wrong when I assembled my machine. Bf disassembled, reassembled and properly aligned the trackpad. Now it works fine.</p><p>Next up, we're trying to remap the ⚙️-key to F13, so it is more useful. It was a bit hard to track down the proper documentation for framework_tool, but my boyfriend dug through the commits and found something: <a href="https://github.com/FrameworkComputer/framework-system/pull/183/commits/f3560af71e476680ee234677bc125d4972b74f87" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">github.com/FrameworkComputer/f</span><span class="invisible">ramework-system/pull/183/commits/f3560af71e476680ee234677bc125d4972b74f87</span></a></p><p><a href="https://meow.social/tags/Framework12" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Framework12</span></a></p>

Bebna<p>If you got a <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/fw12" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fw12</span></a> <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/framework12" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>framework12</span></a> and an "cpu fan not connected" on boot, it could be a known issue with the "max battery" boot power setting. Ignore or switch to one of the two different levels.</p><p><a href="https://chaos.social/tags/framework" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>framework</span></a> said they gonna fix it in a coming update.</p><p>There seems to be a de-laminating / cracking issues near the screws, if you find some, contact support.</p>

Riko :veripawed3:<p>Der <a href="https://meow.social/tags/Fedora" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Fedora</span></a> support scheint dafür gut zu sein.</p><p>»The Framework 12 still feels overpriced [...] as a Windows 11 device but as a fully supported Linux 2-in-1 [...] I'm almost ready to say it's worth the extra money, especially for someone new to Linux. If you can get past the shortcomings [...]. And honestly, there just aren't many true convertible competitors in the Linux space.« Lifting Linux</p><p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bi0tLDg3vYQ" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="">youtube.com/watch?v=Bi0tLDg3vYQ</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> <a href="https://meow.social/tags/Framework12" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Framework12</span></a></p>

The Late Night Linux Family<p>Gary has been using a Framework 12 laptop for a few weeks and gives us his impressions of it. Are the upgradability and repairability worth the premium price he paid for it?</p><p><a href="https://linuxafterdark.net/linux-after-dark-episode-101/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">linuxafterdark.net/linux-after</span><span class="invisible">-dark-episode-101/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/podcast" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>podcast</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/opensource" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>opensource</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/framework12" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>framework12</span></a></p>
the magnificent rhys<p>Tiny reviews of my two new devices:</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.rhys.wtf/tags/Framework12" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Framework12</span></a>: it's awesome. A sidegrade from my previous Yoga but a lovely machine. Linux support was perfect for me, everything worked out of the box, with only one quirk related to module boot order (<a href="https://mastodon.rhys.wtf/@rhys/114893203510647405" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">mastodon.rhys.wtf/@rhys/114893</span><span class="invisible">203510647405</span></a>). I have it configured with Sway on Arch exactly like my old Yoga (<a href="https://rhys.wtf/posts/sway-and-arch-with-yoga" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">rhys.wtf/posts/sway-and-arch-w</span><span class="invisible">ith-yoga</span></a>) plus some additions.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.rhys.wtf/tags/Pebble" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Pebble</span></a> 2 Duo: I am absolutely giddy. It works perfectly. No jank, no bugs, nothing. Can't wait to get devving.</p>
Zygmunt Krynicki<p>Framework 12 is quite pretty and feels very sturdy in person :-) <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/framework12" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>framework12</span></a></p>
half/byte<p>The <a href="https://ruby.social/tags/Framework12" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Framework12</span></a> is alive. This will be my experimental machine for now. I'm running Fedora/KDE on it, because I wanted to try both. I'm also trying out fish as a shell for now.</p><p>Install was easy (except that for some reason the Laptop did not recognize the Fedora image on my IODD, so I had to write it to a flash drive) and the Pen I got works out of the box and the tablet mode seems to work fine.</p><p>I have to say, the bubblegum colorway looks fabulous.</p>
