Jetpack Image Optimization
A few weeks ago I shared a shortcut I’ve been using for shrinking big iPhone photos down for my blog. I also bemoaned this not being a built-in Jetpack app feature:
In my ideal world, the Jetpack app would do these optimizations automatically locally before uploading all the variants, since my phone is certainly way more optimized for image manipulation than my tiny Lightsail instance.
Well apparently my ideal world has existed for at least a year, since version 23.8.1!

I had apparently just not looked at the app settings since running into this issue repeatedly. I bumped this slider down from Original to 1200×1200, which is a limit comparable to shrinking my usually 4284×5712 or 3024×4032 iPhone photos by 25%, like my shortcut was doing.
I’ll see how this does performance-wise on my server over a few posts, since this avoids needing to do the separate share sheet and album management steps.
I do leave the video uploads at original quality since my server doesn’t reprocess those. I haven’t noticed if that’s been a major bandwidth hit or anything.
