Sylvia<p>I emailed the EU (COMP-DMA@ec.europa.eu) explaining why I think <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/Google" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Google</span></a>'s new anti <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/sideload" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sideload</span></a> measures are problematic.</p><p>They responded stating they "welcome feedback from interested parties", noting that the <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/DMA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DMA</span></a> does allow "strictly necessary and proportionate measures to ensure [3rd party apps/stores] do not endanger the [hardware or OS] or to [allow users to effectively protect security]".</p><p>May be worth sending an email explaining your opinion on the necessity and proportionality :)</p>

Even running <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/FOSS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FOSS</span></a> Android apps using <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/Fdroid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Fdroid</span></a>, <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/Obtainium" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Obtainium</span></a>, etc. on <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/Waydroid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Waydroid</span></a> works, although the <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/LibertyPhone" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LibertyPhone</span></a> with more RAM and storage is better suited for it. </p><p>There's also the <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/FLX1" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FLX1</span></a> (runs <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/Droidian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Droidian</span></a>-based <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/FuriOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FuriOS</span></a>) which comes at a more affordable price, and Android app compatibility set up out of the box. I think that is more 'normie'-friendly and has decent specs overall compared to true Linux phones. Devin Prater :blind:<p>JIT isn't just for games! I just ran Arch Linux, with sound, on my iPhone! I used VoiceOver screen recognition to read the screen, then used espeak once I got that installed. I couldn't figure out how to enable Speakup, so I'll leave that for future me to tinker with. I'd be curious to know if any other blind people have used UTM, on the Mac maybe, and have some Windows VM's or a Windows install ISO that talks. I can probably only handle up to Windows 7 or so on this iPhone. Because they’re all also sideloaded to the Kobo app on my iPad. I can just transfer them off the app and onto the reader via the PC.</p><p>*Do you think I can figure out how to get those books back out of the iPad Kobo app???*</p><p>They’ll be in files on the iCloud Drive, surely? Nope.<br>I can connect the iPad to my PC and transfer them. Nope.<br>I can individually click on Share in the Kobo app and send them one by one. NOPE.</p><p>Where the hell are those files (my legally purchased godddamned files!) stored and how do I get to them?<br>(I can hopefully get them back off kindle again but would rather avoid more rigmarole than I have to)</p>

bedast<p>Well, apparently there's a problem with enabling JIT via AltServer/AltStore. bedast<p>Tried finding an alternative client to Discord after figuring out AltStore.</p><p>Interestingly, I found UTM via AltStore, which I'm familiar with on macOS. So I'm downloading some images to try on it. If this works well, it might improve the usability of my iPad in a significant way.</p><p>No alternative Discord clients, though. Just mods of the official client.
