yesterdays talk to @u3acommunities.org on #ipv4 and #ipv6 went well I believe. Although if I do it again I need to improve the flow a bit.
As usual the followup can be found at https://u3acommunities.org/interest-groups/computing/

Is it time to move to the Fediverse ?
Regular social media has been a source of concern for many years, with specific concerns around data gathering, profiling and hidden algorithms used to sell more ads. In 2016 the Fediverse was created as a new way to implement social media. Recently, of course, we’ve seen Twitter/X being taken over by Elon Musk and content checking removed from Facebook. Is it time to move from regular social media to the Fediverse ? In today’s talk, we briefly cover social media history and some of […]https://plord.co.uk/talks/is-it-time-to-move-to-the-fediverse/
@evelynefoerster
Thanks for this.
I am compiling a list of antiquarian Ideas that archaeology has dispelled for possible #U3A talks.
The idea of cities only evolving under ruling elites is an old trope to normalise current attitudes.
Any more good examples of this?
Painted this at our local #u3a art group on Monday.
It's a #lineandwash of the #lighthouse at St Anthony's head, near St. Mawes, Cornwall UK. Our favourite part of the country.
The linework is with a fude nibbed fountain pen, with Platinum Carbon ink.
On #Baohong cotton block with mainly WN and DS paint.
The photo is mine, from last years holiday. We've been to the area loads, mainly with kids, but last year on our own.
Registration is now open for my U3A short course on Thursday afternoons from 20 July.
Early Colonial Artists of South Australia
An historical focus helping us understand colonial art. What's in that picture? Who (really) painted it and when? Is it history or art? From 1836 European founding of Adelaide to first exhibition of artists in February 1847 to comical "Heads of the People" in 1849. Artists William Light, George French Angas, Samuel Thomas Gill, Martha Berkeley, Theresa Walker and more. Roles in society of sketches and watercolour, impact of technology, lithography, earliest photography, the 1845 controversy and more. (7 weeks)

I’m exploring putting on a critical thinking course at #U3A. It was run brilliantly years past by a member who passed away. There’d be a lot of course design etc to do. Maybe a collaboration.
#Introduction.
I'm a retired systems designer and developer living in Canberra. For interest I research the life and work of artist S T Gill 1840-1852. I'm using a data driven approach - including historical mapping - to build a “place and time machine”. I post content from the project. I also run a couple of U3A courses and I'll post some things from the garden.
