A Perfect Pose From A Common Yellowthroat
Not sure why these birds are just called 'yellowthroat' when their whole body seems to be yellow!

The problem with kites is to get the light right. Black splodges against a bright sky isn't great.
City Nature Challenge, this weekend (April 25-7). For those unfamiliar, the City Nature Challenge is a "bioblitz" or citizen science census of the biodiversity in green spaces in urban areas around the world, carried out through the app and org iNaturalist. In NYC, the effort is coordinated by CUNY Prof. Kelly O'Donnell and carried out independently by a host of different organizations and groups in different sites around the five boroughs. with iNaturalist, participants fan out in their chosen venue, and take photos of (non-domesticated, non-ornamental or cultivated) living things they encounter, then upload these to iNaturalist. The data is then available for a wide variety of research projects, from the impact of climate change, to population range shifts to the relationship between socioeconomics and biodiversity, to new species discovery, and has figured in an awesome number of publications. More information is available here: (https://www.inaturalist.org/.../city-nature-challenge...)... . We have a group of students, faculty and neighbors from Pratt Institute going out on Sunday to Brooklyn's Prospect Park. But, in the interest of getting an early start, I stopped by Ft. Greene Park, yesterday, and encountered a few early-birds. See captions for more info. #nature #NaturePhotography #birds #Wildlife #birding #birdphotography #biodiversity
