It allows you to turn AI off with a simple choice in settings.</p>
Diotima<p>Okay so has anyone else noticed the quality of DuckDuckGo results have been like, worse in the past few months? I use it as my secondary search but tbh its been kind of meh overall. </p><p>Kagi is good, some weak points but def good at cutting through BS for me. </p><p>Hn. I need a new secondary maybe. </p><p><a href="https://bardicperspiration.club/tags/DuckDuckGo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DuckDuckGo</span></a> <a href="https://bardicperspiration.club/tags/Kagi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Kagi</span></a> <a href="https://bardicperspiration.club/tags/SearchEngine" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SearchEngine</span></a></p>
Guruprasad :kubuntu: :arch:<p>I've been using <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Kagi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Kagi</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Search" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Search</span></a> almost all the time in the last month after signing up and I haven't missed Google search at all. Yes, I've had to use the bang some times to search Google some times but I can count the number of times that happened using the fingers in my two hands. Even the context-sensitive regional results work most of the times. I have never felt this with <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/DuckDuckGo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DuckDuckGo</span></a> whenever I've tried it in the past.</p>
Grau<p>Goddamn... it's really hard to search for reference images on <a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/duckduckgo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>duckduckgo</span></a> or <a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/qwant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>qwant</span></a> today. There are already an annoying number of AI images there. 😖</p>

Is it still optional if it's bundled?

A subscription plan that bundles "a VPN service, personal information removal, and identity theft restoration" now adds access to DuckDuckGo's "latest AI models through Duck.ai without paying extra."

Search engine #DuckDuckGo has settings options where you can disable their AI. I have done so.
Every time I open DDG, it suggests I enable the fucking AI.
Look, cunts. I'm happy to use an even more alternative search engine.
Give it a rest will ya?!

My all-time-favorite #DuckDuckGo search fail was when I was looking for adult gymnastics classes nearby, and they gave me *very Portland* results 😂 One of these days I’ll give Kagi a try… I’m hoping their Japanese search results are better, since for some reason they decided to appropriate the language for their company name.

Sometimes #DuckDuckGo’s search quality is so atrocious that it’s hilarious; how is it that the first news search result for “アメリカ 関税” (“U.S. tariffs” in Japanese) is a random theater performance review from 136 days ago? And the second search result is in Portuguese 😂

And what’s more, changing the region to “Japan” accomplishes exactly nothing. They really should focus on fixing these basic quality issues instead of making #AI features like Duck.ai or Search Assist that no one asked for…
