I'm done transcribing a 22 minute #grandma recording from September 2019, which started by me asking questions about a November 2011 recording (second oldest I have from her). This was such a worthy one, with lots of background information about 1930s/1940s farm life, including the logistics of shopping (by bag/backpack via train and in sacks delivered by a "neighbor", who had horses), baking with yeast and sourdough (and an experimental duck egg), basket making and sowing rye. #genealogy

- presence day at work came with a pretty ok lunch
- managed to write a passage about my ancestor Johann #Steurenthaler https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Steurenthaler-10 and bis neighbors getting sued for flooding his neighbor's meadow as result of their improved dam (as opposed to his dad, who had been sued for not letting enough water run through it 27 years before)
- my car now has summer tires again

#OTD 26 April 1868 Effie A Lake was born in Morgan County, Illinois, to Aaron Lake and Sarah Elizabeth Bosseck, my third-great-grandparents. Effie was the fifth of seven children who lived to adulthood, while another five died young. She married twice and had no known children. She was beloved by her sisters and by the townspeople of Cunningham, Kansas, where she died. Family legends about Effie's psychic abilities have outlived her too short life.

Current research - Walter Arnot "of that Ilk" b1485. I also love that Scottish title. His genealogical history goes back to around 1250... So many people to explore

During the first meal on the road, I asked myself, if she had had toys as a kid, so I called her right after.
