I’d like a margarita with this #TACO.

#Trump says he’s going to double the #tariff rate on #steel from 25% to 50%, a dramatic increase that could further increase #prices for the metal used to make #housing, #autos & other goods.

Trump was speaking at US Steel’s Mon Valley Works–Irvin Plant in West Mifflin, PA, to announce investments by Japan’s Nippon Steel.

The price of steel products has increased roughly 16% in Trump’s 2nd term, acc/to the govt’s price index.

"Tariffs are, even now, raising prices for everyone: on retail goods at stores like Walmart; on steel that goes into building cars; on lumber used to build houses; and on electronics that you buy to listen to music and podcasts and watch Fox News.

How much will Trump’s trade wars cost an average household? More than $2,300 a year, according to a new estimate from the Yale Budget Lab."

"Walmart, while profitable, can’t actually afford to EAT THE TARIFFS. (Weren’t the Chinese supposed to do that?) So what will Walmart and other companies do if Trump’s tariffs are way up but they’re afraid to risk Trump’s ire by increasing prices?

Hello, empty shelves."

"Trump really lashed out and basically said that he felt like Walmart was a profitable company. Yes, prices would rise because of tariffs—that was implicit in his tweet—but they shouldn’t pass them along. They should 'eat' them. It was really a smoking gun that Trump is actually crystal clear on who pays the price of his tariffs."

The New Republic · Trump’s Angry Walmart Tirade Backfires, Wrecking His Own Tariff ScamAs Trump’s war with Walmart intensifies over its truth-telling about his tariffs, an economist explains how this exposes the fraudulence of his rationale for them—and exposes the political weakness of his position.

"This, just as cuts to funding for food programs by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in March—programs started during Trump’s first term—have slashed the amount of food available to food banks. A USDA spokesperson said in a statement: 'There is no need for new programs, but perhaps more efficient and effective use of current.'

So Republicans today continued their campaign to pressure Walmart into, as Trump put it 'eating' the tariff costs."
