You’re supposed to quit pruning roses in the fall to avoid stimulating any fresh growth with winter coming on. But one day this winter I lost my mind because I was so sick of long thorny branches waving about over my head. So I cut them all down to just 1 foot tall.

Woke up the next morning with dread - oh god, I’ve killed or stunted them.

Well, this season is the most flush with bloom in five years!

A friend has these incredible crimson roses in his garden. The photo doesn't really do the color justice. Love seeing them every year and they're so prolific that I can usually find one in excellent condition.

Update on the Damsel

Well, she wouldn't and she wouldn't, and then, once I stopped fussing over her for a few days, she bloomed!

I predicted this flower would max out at about 14 cm, and this morning it was 13 cm and still not fully open.

I was going to post a day by day on her, and I do have a complete set of daily photos, but I missed the moment to start the sequence due to illness. So you're spared that.

Guten Morgen! Ich möchte meine Freude mit Euch teilen über „Rosengarten Zweibrücken“, die die heftigen Regenfälle der letzten Tage gut überstanden hat. Ihr Duft ist intensiv rosig mit einer Zitrusnote und ihre Blüten sind offen genug, dass Insekten gute Nahrung finden. Ich bin immer wieder begeistert.

Der große Rosenbusch, über 2 Meter hoch und mit einem Durchmesser von mehreren Metern, von der Seite fotografiert. Der Busch ist mit rot-violetten Blüten übersät. Viel Grün und ein blauer Himmel im Hintergrund.

Eine Blütendolde der Rose mit zwei offenen und vielen knospenden Blüten. In der vorderen offenen sieht man den weißen Ansatz der Blütenblätter und den gelben granz aus Staubgefäßen. Der Esstisch für die Bienen ist gedeckt!

Another pretty rose is just starting. I don't know the name of this rose, but I had always wanted a standard rose and I saw this one reduced in B&Q with no buds and took the risk hoping it would be good and it is except for the total lack of scent #roses
