Not a bad day all in all, as ever not quite as much done as hoped... but stuff got done. First beans in toilet-roll-tube "root trainers" at home, some planting in the small home courtyard, and Kat got Swan River Daisies pricked out.

Down at the #allotment I finished securing the greenhouse roof, finished the polytunnel-side greenhouse wall (two walls and a door left!), and got the pallets cleared out of the way on the inside. Burnt some crappy pallet. Strimmed. Cut the crappy old IBC in half (still not sure what to do with this). Cleared the back of the new plot a bit, stacked the IBCs. Kat, meanwhile, did a lot of weeding and cleared woodchip off the back "three sisters bed", we got a layer of municipal compost over it, and have planted sweetcorn and tomatillos into the bed already. 🎉 (Poor corn isn't the happiest.)

Now home, charcoal getting good to go in the BBQ... Barnsley Chops in the fridge. 🤤

Here's a couple of photos of how the allotment fruit is coming on.

There's the loganberries maturing nicely, and a picture of some of the greengages - of which it's going to be a bumper year (greengages are a type of plum)

<edit> Fricking auto corrupt keeps changing loganberries into slogan berries - there's no slogans on my berries! 😂

Bit of a disaster at our allotment - the recent strong winds took the roof off the overhang on our shed - it's where we sit to shelter from the rain or when it's very sunny for our picnics.

This structure has been up for about 10 years, so not bad for one of my Heath-Robinson constructions.

I've got the frame of a new roof up made from scrap wood. I just need to buy some roofing felt.

A week in, the pond is coming along nicely. Got some oxygenators in, iris from a neighbours pond, and a water forget-me-not. Cheapo solar pump for the tinkling noise it makes. Got a new bench and a stone mermaid from an auction. Sown quite a few native perennials seeds but they’ve a way to go so I put some thyme and fennel in (had to put them somewhere) and the rest will get covered in nasturtiums. First dragonfly just flew past! Good start. #allotment #pondlife #wildlife

I feel that I must contribute my own Iris photo today as so many others are contributing theirs. I have no idea what variety this is, it's been on the property in various places all my life. My mother loved Iris blossoms, so I assume she was responsible for their presence. Here they are almost 70 years later and still a show stopper, even on a rainy day. 😀

I posted a photo taken from the same position on 26th April and a month later the contrast is huge.
The broad beans in the foreground are now full of flowers....and bees. It always surprises me how nice they smell. The canes and string are to stop them blowing over in the strong winds we've been 'enjoying' lately.
The plastic sheets are to protect the newly planted runner beans.
On the right the tall growing Alderman peas have reached about 1.2 metres.

Yesterday we did get to our allotment after lunch. There were a few spots of rain and it was hot & sticky - but we got a fair few jobs done.
Sacha picked another tub of strawberries and I got some pea plants and sunflower plants in.
I did more strimming all the while wondering how grass grows so quickly.

I came home with a badly upset stomach and spent the rest of the day feeling ick and sorry for myself. I have no idea what caused that, but it's sorted itself out ( it was definitely different to my usual IBS issues - don't ask for details!!)

Now that the1st planting of corn is done & the 2nd planting is in pots to sprout, I had time to look at what else is going on. The Peonies by the front door (Sarah Bernhardt) are ready to burst forth just in time for the overnight rain (again) to knock them down (I hope the supports I put in a while ago help prevent that). In the greenhouse we have the zukes almost ready to set out, the Sunburst squash & cukes not far behind & the butternut squash being tardy
