flattered to have had the opportunity to work with Geocodio. Great people.
Another September geo event for your calendar for those of you in or near Berlin
- our very own @freyfogle will be speaking about "The Joy of Geocoding" at the GeoIT Symposium on the 29th of September at the SRH University of Applied Science.
We hope you can join us.

Some exciting Indian addressing news - recently India Post has announced the launch of DIGIPIN - 10-digit alphanumeric codes (12 characters when the two dashes are included) corresponding to 4mx4m squares.
We have added DIGIPIN as a new annotation in our geocoding results and also support searching for DIGIPINs

Falls ein Wesen hier mal einen #Photon Server bzw. nen #API Endpunkt braucht - ich betreibe einen bei mir.
Einfach fragen, bekommt ihr dann.
Mit weltweiten Kartendaten.
Also das ganz dicke Ding.
Klar, kann jeder selber hosten, aber nicht jeder will halt 400GB Daten auf SSD dafür opfern.
Ich brauch den für meinen #Dawarich Server.
Issue 123/124 of Blaise Pascal Magazine released: #Geocoding with #Pascal, a die-cast simulator for teaching statistics in #Object_Pascal, QUEENS puzzle in Pascal, threading #Free_Pascal code via #WebAssembly in the browser, RTTI in #PAS2JS etc.
Oh, the tragedy of turning numbers into an address! Our hero wrestles with #geocoding like it's quantum physics, despite the existence of multiple ready-made solutions.
Apparently, even the world's simplest #APIs can't save us from the #drama of #mapping #benches.

We used #Photon and #Nominatim #geocoding services to convert the textual place names into geographical locations and aggregated them on the #NUTS and #LAU levels to support usability of our data.
Geocoding the data was not simple. Many place names were entered into the Erasmus+ database manually resulting in diverse place names containing national spellings, typographical mistakes, character encoding errors, and national scripts, which required manual corrections.
Geocoding is ridiculously hard to code.
For example 'Paris' should list the streetname in your area, but also the city in france.
With current settings, it's either world-wide OR local.
We have an idea to fix this:
When searching, use the 'proximity' function and list local places, BUT leave the first result open for world-wide locations.
It's just a brainfart, but we might get this done to hugely improve our search-function.
Just to be sure, now that Komoot has been sold …
Because yeah, while most of you are afraid of losing the routes available on the platform, I'm afraid of losing a great geolocator (and also the one we're using for business).
