Hi, everybody. I just switched my Mastodon instance from `social.kalvin.my` to `mastodon.kalvin.my`, reinstalled Mastodon because of federation issues and performance with the `threads.net` Fediverse server. I hope this is my last personal single-user Mastodon instance.
Setting up my new Minisforum Mini PC for my new lab environment. 
Guys, I'm moving my domain name from kupi.my to kalvin.my. The new one is nicer and more like myself. 
I plan to host my apps there only for myself, family, and trusted/close friends.

I'm sitting here, thinking how beautiful it is that some people still don't fall for marketing tricks 
- they choose what's truly the best for the price. I like to think I'm one of them... until I realize I'm wrong 
For me, "the best" often means "the most privacy-respecting", not necessarily the most powerful or feature-rich 
But it shouldn't be this way! We shouldn't have to choose between privacy and quality! Privacy should be a default - something normal users don't even have to worry about.
But it's not. And that's sad 
So how do we change that?

Ich nutze ja tatsächlich die Chat-Funktionalität von Home Assistant echt sehr selten. Eigentlich gar nicht. Ist Home Assistant Assist ein Thema für dich? Oder klammerst du das auch eher aus? Homelab Backup Evolution!
Following the "3-2-1 is the minimum" rule, I've expanded my VPS container backup strategy:
Hetzner Cloud (Borg) → Offsite long-term storage Synology NAS (rsync) → Local fast recovery
The new setup does nightly automated syncs of all /opt/containers/ data to my Synology - with deduplication and all the bells and whistles! 
Particularly clever: hardlinks for space-efficient snapshots and morning email reports. Now I know right with my coffee 
whether all backups ran cleanly.
Lesson learned: Cloud-only is good, but having a local NAS mirror for quick restores is pure gold! 
How do you solve this in your setups? Also multi-tier or everything to cloud?

Just dropped off a FreeBSD server for a client (a bakery, how cool is that?!) who's already a *BSD evangelist (they've been running FreeBSD & OpenBSD thanks to my earlier installs).
They were so chuffed, they sent me home with a haul of their yummy products!
