I want to find a way to tell #HomeAssistant if I am in a zoom call. I'm shocked that this seems to be hard.

As shipped with #fedora Silverblue 42, pasta 0^20250415.g2340bbf-1.fc42.x86_64 crashes with "ASSSERTION FAILED in udp_at_sidx (udp_flow.c:35): flow->f.type == FLOW_UDP" leading to no connectivity in the container when a dev instance of #homeassistant is launched in podman. What actually triggers the crash within the instance startup sequence is not yet clear.
Seeking help from the Home Assistant community: I bought two Philips Hue Outdoor sensors, they both pair with HA via Zigbee and are detected as SML004 by Signify Netherlands B.V. Both have the same exact problem: they report the illuminance and temperature *once*, when they are paired, then never again. The motion sensor works fine, but lux and temp not at all. I thought it was a device problem, but it happens with two devices, and I don't have a Philips Hue Bridge, so I can't update their firmware. Thoughts?

This video doorbell works with both a battery and a transformer—and yes, it works with Home Assistant too! Check out my review to see what’s awesome and what’s not so great.
About a week later than planned, I finally have my blogpost on automating step-ca in my #HomeLab, using #Puppet to automatically setup, and ensure renewal of, short-lived ssh certificates on all my hosts.
The end result is that all my internal certificates, both SSH and X509 for TLS have lifespans < 48 hours, so I'm way ahead of the Browser CA Forum's 47-day-lifespan-by-2029-plan.
At least, that's the first half of the post; the second half is then me describing all the services that I can't control through puppet, and how I wrangled them into Supporting SSH certificates whether they wanted to or not. Including #Truenas, #QNAP, #Opnsense, #HomeAssistant and #Forgejo/#Gitea.
It's mostly talking about SSH certs, but it also touches on issuing regular X509 certs for their web interface certificates, for the ones that don't support ACME properly (spoiler: that's most of them )
Given this is probably of interest to maybe a dozen people on the Fediverse, it's probably not worth all the time I put into it, but on the plus side, I feel I understand how everything works incredibly well now, which will be useful going forward. (In before someone puts a comment here telling me how I could have fixed some of the problems I hit here much easier!)
Check it out, if it sounds at all interesting to you: https://i.am.eddmil.es/posts/ssh-certificates/
Since November of last year, #HomeAssistant has gained the option to integrate Husqvarna robotic lawn mowers in a cloudless fashion, so buying one of those is finally looking like a somewhat interesting option.

I currently use #sensibo air sensors to control the #airconditioning in our bungalows.
However, I would like to use something local that does not need a #cloud #subscription to operate. I have already set up a #homeassistant on a Raspberry Pi 4.
Can anyone recommend some sensors that can be used locally and interact directly with Home Assistant without using the cloud?
I need to sense #humidity and #temperature and be able to control the air conditioners.

We opted for the Zigbee Third Reality plug (https://3reality.com/product/smart-plug-gen2-with-energy-monitoring/) and pairing them to #HomeAssistant was a dream. No data yet on how they function but it's a really good start!
Ah... classic #HomeAssistant rookie mistake. I updated the firmware on a device for no good reason and now it's not being picked up in HA.
@maxleibman I have no corporate overlord controlling my digital devices. GrapheneOS, Linux, NextCloud, and HomeAssistant.
Always ask who controls the platform and work diligently to break or weaken their grip on you and your content.
Apparently many #HomeAssistant integrations have hidden configs that can only be edited via yaml, which kinda sucks but no biggie, but there’s actually no way for you to edit the yaml of an existing integration. You need to delete the integration and then configure it entirely via yaml from scratch. That really sucks.

#SmartHome #HomeAssistant #Hausautomation #Technologie"
On that matter tho, does anyone know which ports I need to open in the firewall for HomeKit Bridge?
I opened 21063 bc that’s what the docs say it’s the default, but it still blocked the connections and made syncing fail. I disabled the firewall and now it works.
Aaaaaa Home Assistant is so cool!!
I wanted to bring details of my VW id.4 into HA so I could see charge and create automations with my new solar system. the current VW integration in HACs does not work with US based VW's. digging around I found that the smartcar api did, so after lots of back and forth with AI (Gemini 2.5pro mostly) I have a working integration!

This may or may not of taken up most of my attention over the last few days, sorry to anyone waiting on a tubeszb order #homeassistant
This place gives me a good opportunity to finally seriously start messing around with #HomeAssistant.
There is an unused security system installed in this house. I'm not sure what it is, but one of the keypads has the Xfinity logo in it. There's door and window sensors all over the place, and even a camera screwed into the light socket on the back patio. Can any of this be used with HA? I don't know, but I'll find out.
I have a pretty nice, if a little old, Davis weather station in storage which I'll be putting up as soon as I can and get that integrated with HA, and maybe set up a #WeeWX server too.
The heating and cooling is much more modern that the wheezy gas furnace in my old home. Again, is HA integration possible. I'm sure it is, I just need to figure it out.
Interesting adventures in the future!
Slow toilet leak detected and corrected, thanks to #Flume and @homeassistant
