A couple hours ago, a song from 1970 got me thinking about pop culture ephemera from that era. Although I was alive at that time, tastes and aesthetics were changing so fast that when I was old enough to really pay attention to media, it already seemed like traces of some strange twilight bygone world.
Although fashions had moved on, those uncanny and instantly-dated designs from around 1970 were always somehow there in the background of my childhood.
This reminded me of Rachel Lichtman's Programme4 audio/visual site (https://www.programme4.tv/broadcast), a faithful yet subversive recreation of the aesthetics of that time (or so it seems to me).
It's somehow captured the vibe of old magazines, "nice restaurants" favored by older relatives, tv reruns, uncool advertisements for local businesses, thrift store finds, and muzak. It's fun and also annoying. It's feminist. I kind of love that work like this exists in the world.
