Fedi, do you tip on self-service/ready-to-go meals?
Ex. Prepared wraps, sandwiches, salad bowls or similar; drinks, chips or snacks, cookies, etc. Where you simply grab what you want and go to pay at the staffed cash.

When customers felt monitored while #tipping, they were less likely to return or recommend the business – according to an analysis of 36,000 transactions looking at the effects of "tip surveillance" on customer behavior. Two #marketing professors share their insights from this research: https://theconversation.com/tip-pressure-might-work-in-the-moment-but-customers-are-less-likely-to-return-242089 #shopping #restaurants
New at my Patreon... Tipping in the USA has increased its scope, with tip prompts on payment terminals even at places where you line up. I say hell no to that:
What a rookie. No way I'm tipping in the US if I've had to line up to order.

Tipping culture is annoying, unfair and worst of all American
In the US, I was asked to tip after buying a single banana. To my horror, tip-creep is spreading in #French bars & restaurants
As an American living in Paris, I’m not sure when I first started having moments of culture shock visiting the US
But there are 2 American practices that now irritate me no end: sales tax not being included the price of items, & tipping.
Americans: have you changed the way you tip in the past 10 years?

#Solar #energy is the️ most widely available energy resource on Earth,
and its economic attractiveness is improving fast in a cycle of #increasing #investments.
Here we use data-driven conditional technology and economic forecasting modelling to establish which zero carbon power sources could become dominant worldwide.
We find that, due to technological trajectories set in motion by past policy,
a global #irreversible solar #tipping #point may have passed where solar energy gradually comes to #dominate global #electricity #markets,
without any further climate policies.
Uncertainties arise, however, over #grid #stability in a renewables-dominated power system,
the availability of #sufficient #finance in underdeveloped economies,
the capacity of #supply #chains and #political #resistance from regions that lose employment.
Policies resolving these barriers may be more effective than price instruments to accelerate the transition to clean energy
Non-story - we don’t have a tipping tradition in Australia.

'A 2023 Angus Reid poll found that 59 per cent of Canadians surveyed said they'd prefer a "service-included" model, which would see an end to tipping and employees wages increase instead to compensate them.' https://www.cbc.ca/radio/costofliving/tip-deflation-1.7255390 #tipping #livingwage #foodservice
tipping culture in North America, and especially in Canada is out of hand. The last five restaurants I was handed a card reader at to pay my bill presented the following tip options:
18%
20%
25%
I know restaurant servers work hard. I know baristas at quality-driven cafes work hard. But I'm fed up with owners expecting customers to cover a substantial portion of their workers' wages via tips. Fed up.
I am no longer tipping more than 15% for exceptional, first rate service at full service restaurants, and I will no longer tip for take out coffee served from a big batch brewer. I will continue to tip $0.50 to $1 for a hand crafted coffee beverage.
That's it.
