@jnsgruk Well we've got an almost functional ubuntu bootc desktop. All the snaps, etc. work out of the box. Not many modifications needed.

It would be relative easy to maintain but I don't have the spoons to do it long term.

If someone in the #ubuntu community is interested it solves the problem.

Asking for some help on Ubuntu. I have three different browsers installed but I cannot select a different default browser in the System/Apps/Default Apps settings. The options box just shows Firefox with no drop down arrow or different choices at all.
The other two I have installed are Vivaldi and Zen, but it's like the OS doesn't know they are there.

Am on 25.10, this was the same situation before updating yesterday though.

UPDATE: Sorted out now, Vivaldi was installed from flatpak, Ubuntu couldn't see it, installed Snap version of Vivaldi instead, there it is as a choice in default settings.

I have a feeling I avoided doing the Snap install originally due to seeing some negative chatter about it, but I really can't remember exactly now. Thanks for your help provided in the replies.

The Register · Linux vendors are getting into Ubuntu – and SnapVon Liam Proven

So the question for me is: how do we set the bias between that and delivering a product that for 90 or 95 percent of people, they install it, they boot it up, and it just works, and it's great.

I have done this experiment.
...
Day to day, I do not run into these issues.
oh my, I can’t wait to tell everyone why I switched from Ubuntu to Fedora about that faithful day that I had a system without a usable browser

I am looking for user experiences installing #UbuntuTouch on Android devices that are newer than those listed as “supported” on the #Ubuntu site. I suppose I am particularly interested in #Xiaomi devices, bonus points if an install has been shown to work in #Japan.
[EDIT] After getting lots of great feedback, I bought a used Google Pixel 3a XL in nice condition. There's a very stable install for this that covers every function the phone has. No point in a newer model if nothing works on it.

「 In addition to sudo-rs, Ubuntu 26.04 will use the Rust-based uutils/coreutils for Linux's default core utilities. This setup includes ls, cp, mv, and dozens of other basic Unix command-line tools. This Rust reimplementation aims for functional parity with GNU coreutils, with improved safety and maintainability 」

TFW you can't remember the encryption password to the laptop you recently reinstalled.

I guess it's a good opportunity to switch up the OS on it. #BlueFin consistently works great, but maybe it's a good time to try the latest #Debian, #Ubuntu, #Bazzite or #OpenBSD? Any suggestions?

My only requirements are: install-time full-disk encryption & not KDE-based (due to abysmal performance on my 5K monitors). Immutable or a focus on security is a plus.
